A great playlist and beautiful lighting are a must too! If you are looking for the perfect, simple signature cocktail for a couples baby shower this is it! This cocktail has the bourbon for the boys (or the girls like me who love bourbon), the bubbly for the girls, and the vanilla bean syrup simple syrup that is irresistible! Enough to make out taste buds tingle just thinking about it.

We loved everything about this party and our underspoken custom cocktail napkins with cream foil on white with the baby's monogram in one of our Signature Collection designs complimented the decor and tone perfectly. We're not sure what the offiial name of this cocktail is, however, for this party, it was named the BOURBON BABY! And BABY, was it a hit!

BOURBON BABY

1/2 C sugar

1/2 C water

1/2 vanilla bean split

Bourbon (something good; Bulleit, Blanton's, Woodford Reserve, Four Roses, etc.)

Prosecco (we use Lemarca)

Combine sugar, water, bean and seeds in small pot. Bring to a boil over medium heat and cook until the sugar is dissolved. Let cool to room temperature, then discard the vanilla bean (I did not strain it because I love the effect of the little black dot seeds floating around!) Add 1 shot of bourbon and 2 tablespoons vanilla bean syrup to a chilled champagne flute. Fill to the top with Prosecco, serve! SIMPLE and AWESOME!!

I LOVE a signature drink at any event, especilly a tailgate! I typically create a cocktail to match school colors (think Blue Curacao for Memphis Tiger Tonic for example), however, this drink doesn't have to match! 

On my Bloody Mary bar, ONLY original, authentic homemade Bloody Mary mix may be used and I make no exceptions to this! (My crowd makes no exceptions to this either; I think I would be overthrown if I opted to use a mix off the shelf)! ! My 30 year old recipe uses a very special secret ingredient also from the 1920s but with origins on opposite ends of the earth from Paris; a little known sauce that hails from Jamaica! I have never seen another Bloody Mary recipe like this and I have never tasted one I like better (not to brag, but really, it's awesome)! 

I'll share my ingredients for my Bloody Mary bar, but sharing my recipe for my mix is well...hmm, contact me and we'll see!

So, to continue, I LOVE to put together a Bloody Mary bar, and when I'm finished, the end result somewhat resembles a mini-salad bar! Anything goes as far as I am concerned and I think more is always better. In the end, I sort of end of "eating" my drink! Of course, a Bloody Mary bar at home and a Bloody Mary bar as a moveable feast at a football stadium when tailgating are going to be different, but here are my Bloody Mary bar essentials regardless of location:

TRAY - Start with an oversized gorgeous purposeful TRAY - I think everything MUST be encompassed on a tray that is in keeping with the nature of your event: a collegiate themed colorful tray for a tailgate, a silver or brass tray for a brunch at home or a wicker or woven tray for casual outdoor entertaining. I even have a very large oversized McCarty pottery tray that I use for my Bloody Mary bar. (Yes, I am an admitted TRAY ADDICT and there are lots of us out there; you all know who you are)!

CUPS - OURS, of course! For tailgating, I prefer the ubiquitous collegiate oriented soft plastic "Solo" type cup. As far as size, my preference is the 16oz cup. Go with team colors in red or blue, or go with the classic clear or white cup. For fancier soirees I would use the frost flex {shatterproof} cup in either the 16oz or 20oz size. For a really neat twist, our etched Tritan polycarbonate 18 and 33.5 ounce beer mugs are great for Bloodies when entertaining indoors or out!

NAPKINS - OURS, of course! For tailgating, go with colliegate team 3-ply beverage/cocktail napkins. For more upscale events, I prefer our beautiful Soft Airlaid beverage/cocktail napkins or DeVille cocktail/beverage napkins personalized with a beautiiful monogram.

LIME JUICE and RIMMING SPICES FOR THE RIM OF THE CUPS OR GLASSES - Using a small flat dish for lime juice, wet the rim of the cup or glass with lime juice and dip into a mixture of savory spices including garlic salt, paprika, cayenne pepper, table salt, celery salt, etc., or buy this ready made (yes, "store bought" is allowed here!)

BLOODY MARY MIX - HOMEMADE PREFERRED see above; this is a MUST for my crew. Do not mix vodka in; this allows people to make their drinks to their liking and for non-drinkers to enjoy the delish mix as well.

VODKA - Your preference here; at home I tend to use something a little nicer; when serving a crowd at a tailgate, I cut back on the quality and the expense! Infusing it with garlic and black peppercorns beforehand makes it even better!

LIMES & LIMES - Some prefer LEMON, but I'm a lime lover! Regardless, please make these easy to squeeze by cubing them!

SAUCES & SEASONINGS - Anything goes here; Kosher salt, freshly ground pepper, celery salt, Tobasco, sriracha, prepared horseradish, Old Bay seasoning, cayenne pepper, Frank's Hot Sauce, etc.

FRESHLY GROUND PEPPER

CELERY - I cut this long enough to swizzle!

OLIVES* - Try an assortment here; large to small, blue cheese stuffed to good ole Spanish version with pimento.

CUCUMBERS* - Try cutting these into long spears!

COCKTAIL ONIONS* - Yes, those kind your father used to eat out of the jar!

PICKLES* - Any size, shape or flavor...

PICKLED OKRA*, GREEN BEANS, ASPARAGUS SPEARS - Not from the South? TRY IT, YOU'LL LIKE IT!

GIARDINIERA*

BACON or BACON BITS- Candied or not; yes, really!

SEAFOOD*!?! - YES PLEASE! Boiled shrimp or steamed oysters here!

NOTES:

*I like to "pre-skewer" these items (see photo) so guests may eat them off of the stick along with their drink! 

**And, to appease my mother, NOTHING may be served from jar or original container! ALL garnishments must be "decanted" in  keeping with the the style of the event! I use clear acrylic containers when tailgating, silver compotes and vessels for brunches at home and McCarty pieces for casual outdoor or home entertaining.

These will stand up to any food from a barbecue nacho bar to hamburgers and hot dogs. YOU NEED THESE!
• STIR STICKS - Okay, soooo, these may NOT be considered essential like 1-4, HOWEVER, they are the creme de la creme, the icing on the cake, the swizzle in your toddy! Serioulsy order these. They make a splash and work lots better than a dirty finger.

Before considering size, the most important thing we can point out about ALL of our cups is this: CUP SIZE IS MEASURED TO FLUSH FILL CAPACITY. This means that a cup that is labeled as a 16 ounce cup holds 16 ounces of LIQUID ONLY WITH NO ICE when FILLED TO the VERY TIP OF THE BRIM as in almost overflowing. This DOES NOT mean that 16 ounces of liquid will fit in the cup along with ice!

What size cup should I order?

CUP SIZES CAN BE DECEIVING! If in doubt ALWAYS ORDER A SIZE UP! Surprisingly, drinkware is measured as filled to the brim FLUSH FILL CAPACITY. This means that the cup holds the stated number of ounces when it is filled to almost overflowing with LIQUID ONLY (NOT INCLUDING ICE). Stated ounces from the manufacturer are intended to show approximate volume and are not an implied guarantee of exact volume.

All measuring cups measure differently and are only accurate to a certain degree so measuring cups at home may measure differently than manufacturers measuring devices.

We recommend choosing CUP SIZE CAREFULLY and following these guidelines:

• SOFT DRINKS WITH ICE: A 16 ounce cup is the best choice for serving soft drinks WITH ICE. Most canned soft drinks are 12 ounces. A 16 ounce cup will hold a partial 12 ounce can of soft drink with ice. Carbonation adds volume so a 16 ounce cup filled ¾ way with ice will hold approximately 6-8 ounces of a soft drink. A 20 or 24 ounce cup is a good choice if you wish to pour an entire canned beverage into a cup at one time.
• BEER: Most canned and bottled beers are 12 ounces. When poured with NO ICE, a 16 ounce soft plastic (solo type) cup is a great choice for a bottle or can of beer with no ice. The college favorite for holding 2 beers is a 32 ounce stadium cup.
• WINE: A full glass of wine is typically 5-6 ounces, however, a proper pour is actually half of that (of course, that may depend on the bartender). An 8 ounce cup is a good size when serving wine but smaller cups may also be used depending on the occasion.
• MIXED DRINKS: A 14 ounce or 16 ounce cup is the best choice for mixed drinks with ice.
• COFFEE or HOT DRINKS: A 14 or 16 ounce cup is a good choice for hot drinks. Both of these sizes are generous and allow some “slosh” room.
• BEACH DRINK: We recommend a biggie such as a 20 or 24 or even a 32 ounce cup for beach beverages. No one wants to leave the surf and sand for refills! If in doubt, check out cup sizes at your grocery, local party store, or Sams or Costco before you order. You may also look on the bottom of your favorite cup and the size in ounces is usually stamped in some form there. When springtime hits Memphis, that means its also time to celebrate Memphis and the South with festivals galore! Its never too early to plan ahead and get all of your custom partyware for each event. 

April comes in strong with the Annual Overton Square Crawfish Festival, now in its 21st year! Overton Square has made a huge comeback over the past few years with the addition of some great new restaurants like Local Gastropub, Babalu, and Belly Acres, and thriving new bars including Lafayette's Music Room, and Bar Louie. This makes "the Square" a perfect location for tents lining the sidewalk and folks lining up at the tents to suck some heads and pinch some tails (let's just hope its only CRAWFISH tails that get pinched, ha!). 

For the sloppy, messy job of eating crawfish and all of the accompaniments, nothing works better than our heavy soft airlaid napkins and guest towels. Right after Memphis in May, Memphis gets geared up for two more major celebrations: Memphis Italian Festival and its more sophistocated carnival of the season, more aptly referred to as  "The Party with a Purpose" or Carnival Memphis. With 10 grand krewes participating and young and old alike involved, the action and the fun never stops during the month of June.

For Carnival there are "Cups for EVERY Purpose" of COURSE using each krewe's custom artwork! There are large 20 oz ROADIE foam cups that the King and Queen must have to accompany their outings, there are hard clear plastic cups for the parties the krewes throw to reveal their royalty, there are shatterproof/frost flex cups for the royal brunches and luncheons, there are neon plastic shot glasses for those rave theme parties that are thrown by those (ahem) YOUNGER krewes, for souvenir throwing during the parade, nothing pleass a crowd like our awesome color changing stadium cups! Of course there are custom printed napkins and guest towels, coasters, stir sticks, matches and even plates adorned with the crests and emblems of the krewes to go along with the cups and basics.

Before considering size, the most important thing we can point out about ALL of our cups is this: CUP SIZE IS MEASURED TO FLUSH FILL CAPACITY. This means that a cup that is labeled as a 16 ounce cups holds 16 ounces of liquid when FILLED TO the VERY TIP BRIM as in almost overflowing. This DOES NOT meant that 16 ounces of liquid will fit in the cup along with ice!

What size cup should I order?

CUP SIZES CAN BE DECEIVING! If in doubt ALWAYS ORDER A SIZE UP! Surprisingly, drinkware is measured as filled to the brim FLUSH FILL CAPACITY. This means that the cup holds the stated number of ounces when it is filled to almost overflowing with LIQUID ONLY (NOT INCLUDING ICE). Stated ounces from the manufacturer are intended to show approximate volume and are not an implied guarantee of exact volume.

All measuring cups measure differently and are only accurate to a certain degree so measuring cups at home may measure differently than manufacturers measuring devices.

We recommend choosing CUP SIZE CAREFULLY and following these guidelines:

• SOFT DRINKS WITH ICE: A 16 ounce cup is the best choice for serving soft drinks WITH ICE. Most canned soft drinks are 12 ounces. A 16 ounce cup will hold a partial 12 ounce can of soft drink with ice. Carbonation adds volume so a 16 ounce cup filled ¾ way with ice will hold approximately 6-8 ounces of a soft drink. A 20 or 24 ounce cup is a good choice if you wish to pour an entire canned beverage into a cup at one time.
• BEER: Most canned and bottled beers are 12 ounces. When poured with NO ICE, a 16 ounce soft plastic (solo type) cup is a great choice for a bottle or can of beer with no ice. The college favorite for holding 2 beers is a 32 ounce stadium cup.
• WINE: A full glass of wine is typically 5-6 ounces, however, a proper pour is actually half of that (of course, that may depend on the bartender). An 8 ounce cup is a good size when serving wine but smaller cups may also be used depending on the occasion.
• MIXED DRINKS: A 14 ounce or 16 ounce cup is the best choice for mixed drinks with ice.
• COFFEE or HOT DRINKS: A 14 or 16 ounce cup is a good choice for hot drinks. Both of these sizes are generous and allow some “slosh” room.
• BEACH DRINK: We recommend a biggie such as a 20 or 24 or even a 32 ounce cup for beach beverages. No one wants to leave the surf and sand for refills! If in doubt, check out cup sizes at your grocery, local party store, or Sams or Costco before you order. You may also look on the bottom of your favorite cup and the size in ounces is usually stamped in some form there. Wow, what words can I use to adequately express the excitement and pride that this day holds as I launch cupofarms.com, a successor to paperhouseonline.com? Since 2003 Paper House Online has been selling personalized cups, napkins, koozies, plates, and partyware. We are launching Cup of Arms today to continue this tradition in a new and more chic, mobile friendly  way. 

When I founded The Paper House (the original teenie weenie boutique retail stationery store from which Paper House Online was born) way back in 1993, my core belief was that people were the most important part of every business. Today, 23 years later, I still hold firm to that belief and I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your loyal support and for your past business all of these years.  I still remain committed to these same core values and promise to offer the same great service you have always received.

Behind the Shield

The new name, Cup of Arms, is inspired by the traditional definition of a coat of arms. According to Websters, a coat of arms is a special design that a family, organization or place uses as its own sign and is usually found on a shield. EVERYTHING we do is a special design that a family, individual, organization or place uses as its own sign but it is often found on a CUP (or a napkin, or a koozie, or a plate, or a stir stick, or a coaster, or a ribbon or a water bottle or a label); you get the picture), so we feel our name truly bespeaks us and represents our classic and authentic style.

We have collaborated with an amazing group of designers to create the fresh and stylish Signature Collection of sophistocated monograms, initial and name designs, Quips and Party Animals and Collegiate favorites that reflect our classic, traditional style and are exclusive only to us.
